New Passenger Footbridge, Sheffield

As part of a refurbishment of Sheffield Train Station a new passenger footbridge was designed to replace an existing old fully enclosed footbridge.

The footbridge was designed to take advantage of the views along the main tracks with the glazed walls directly above the tracks ‘bowed’ to create an area to pause and watch the trains.

To reflect Sheffield’s strong links with the steel industry the bridge and ancillary stairs and lift shafts were clad in steel cladding reflecting this whilst also providing a tough finish minimising future maintenance.
